For Margaret, life has been a beautiful blend of faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Her journey began when she found her faith at just eighteen, deeply rooted in her local church community. Shortly after, she met Steve, the love of her life, and they married when she was 21. Together, they built a life full of love, with two children and a home in Sydney.
Life wasn’t always easy. Margaret lost her father at a young age, and her mother later suffered a debilitating stroke requiring constant care. With grace and resilience, Margaret balanced raising two young children while being a dedicated daughter, supporting her mother as she moved into a nursing home.
Meanwhile, Steve’s career in banking flourished, providing stability for their family. In later years, he took on the significant role of CEO of the Sydney Anglican Diocese, further solidifying their connection to the community. Margaret, too, found joy in serving others, volunteering at her church and local community groups. But when Steve passed away from a brain tumour, her world was shattered.
Margaret shares that losing Steve was devastating. Yet, even in her grief, Margaret was determined to continue the legacy of generosity and faith they had built together. With the guidance of her financial advisors, she established a Private Ancillary Fund (PAF), which allowed her to continue giving back in a structured, sustainable way.
“Steve would be so proud. As Christians, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus,” she explains. For Margaret, it’s not just about the money - it’s about showing up for people. It is for the same reason that she volunteers in her local community and hospital.
Through her PAF, Margaret now supports a number of key charities, carefully giving her donations throughout the year so that each organisation can plan and thrive. Anglicare holds a special place in her heart. She speaks passionately about Anglicare’s programs, from aged care to Mobile Community Pantries, foster care support, chaplaincy and Margaret has also introduced many friends. Whether through her financial contributions or her time volunteering, Margaret continues to live out her values every day.
“If you have the means, help where you can,” Margaret reflects. “It’s about finding what moves your heart and getting involved, whether that’s donating, volunteering, or just being there for someone who needs it.”
Margaret’s story is one of strength, love, and faith in action - a true testament to the power of giving back. Anglicare is deeply grateful for her ongoing support.
