Adoption

Adoption is a permanent legal process which transfers parental responsibility from a child’s birth parents to their adoptive parents.

Anglicare Sydney provides adoption services and support to children, birth families and prospective adoptive parents considering adoption.

Adoption services

Adoption from foster care
If you would like to provide long term foster care for a child, you may wish to consider fostering to adopt where adoption is in the best interest of the child.

As an accredited adoption service, Anglicare can process the adoption of children from long term foster care, authorising you as both an adoptive parent and a foster carer. This is called “dual authorisation” and it can make the process of finalising your child’s adoption in court far more streamlined.

Anglicare is committed to placing each child in the family who can best meet their needs. Anglicare is not accredited to support the adoption of a child from overseas (intercountry adoption) or a child who is a member of your family (intrafamily adoption), such as a stepchild. For these adoption services, please contact Communities and Justice adoption services.
