Sometimes, we find ourselves part of something bigger than we realise. That’s exactly what the residents of Anglicare Retirement Village at The Ponds in Stanhope Gardens discovered during a recent information lunch.
As they gathered, the atmosphere was buzzing with curiosity. Speakers shared stories about Anglicare’s various missions, reminding everyone that while Anglicare is known for its seniors living spaces, it’s also deeply involved in a range of community initiatives - many of which residents can join in on.
One resident was surprised: “I always thought Anglicare was just about nursing homes and villages, but now I see there’s so much more!” Someone chimed in, “I had no idea Anglicare was involved in children’s welfare and domestic violence. It’s just blown my mind!” Residents expressed pride in being part of an organisation that strives to embody care and compassion.
Many village residents highlighted how important community engagement is for their well-being. One noted, “It’s easy to feel like you’re in a cocoon here, so knowing there are opportunities to give back is really valuable.”
As the event came to a close, participants left with more than just new information. They walked away with the realisation that, in retirement, there are plenty of ways to be involved, contribute, and remain connected to their community.
