Anglicare’s vibrant seniors living village on Sydney’s Lower North Shore has received the Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW (UDIA NSW) Award for Excellence in Retirement Living.
Following a six-year redevelopment of the historic Lady Gowrie village, the re-named Gordon Quarter features 40 retirement living units, a heritage-listed mansion and a 107-room Roden Cutler Lodge residential aged care home, set amongst natural bushland.
Anglicare Sydney CEO, Simon Miller, said “Gordon Quarter is one of Anglicare’s most ambitious redevelopments to date and we are thrilled to receive this prestigious award that recognises excellence in retirement living.”
The village features apartments designed to complement the historic buildings which stand proudly on the site. At the heart of the village is the heritage-listed Mediterranean-style mansion - Burnham Thorpe - which was converted into eight retirement living units and retains historical features including the chandelier, grand cascading staircase and heritage ballroom with the original sprung floor.
“The result of a six-year redevelopment, Gordon Quarter honours the rich history of the site and sets a new standard for seniors living,” said Mr Miller.
Community facilities include a pool, Café, snooker room, wine cellar, and outdoor BBQ areas. The village features environmentally sustainable design elements including natural light and ventilation, energy and water-wise fittings, rooftop solar power, and rainwater harvesting. An onsite Health & Wellness Consultant coordinates a range of wellbeing programs and activities for residents.
