The Board of Anglicare Sydney today announces that, following an extensive external and internal search process, Ms Evelyn Horton FAICD has been appointed as the new Chair of Anglicare Sydney, effective 1 August 2024.

Ms Horton has served on the Board of Anglicare Sydney since September 2021.

She is the Commissioner of Superannuation in Tasmania, a director of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation, Chair of the Glebe Administration Board and a member of the Standing Committee of the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. Ms Horton’s executive experience included 15 years in investment banking and over a decade at the Commonwealth Treasury in Canberra.

Anglicare Sydney CEO, Mr Simon Miller, welcomed Ms Horton to the role of Chair and thanked Mr Greg Hammond OAM for his contribution.

“Evelyn has been a valued member of the Anglicare board, and she is perfectly positioned to support the work of Anglicare now and into the future.

“Her experience in the commercial, government and not-for-profit sectors is a great asset to us, as is her leadership, personal faith and commitment to Anglicare’s vision, mission and values.

“I look forward to working closely with Evelyn in her new role as Chair,” said Mr Miller.

Ms Horton is delighted to step into the role in August.

“It is a privilege to be appointed Chair of such a wonderful, mission-focused organisation as Anglicare Sydney. I’m grateful to the Board for their support, and to Simon for his continued leadership and commitment to serving those in need in our communities.

“I look forward to this new chapter of service to the Board and the Anglicare team as Chair,” said Ms Horton.

“Anglicare Sydney sincerely thanks Mr Hammond for his outstanding contribution to Anglicare during his more than eight years as Chair. He steered the organisation through a period of significant change, which included the formation of Anglicare Sydney with the merger of Anglican Retirement Villages and the Sydney Anglican Home Mission Society in 2016.

“Greg has been a great encouragement to the Board, to me, our Executive, and our organisation as we serve people in need, enrich lives, and share the love of Jesus. We wish him every joy and success in his future endeavours serving the Diocese and beyond,” said Mr Miller.

“Together with the Board, we thank God for Greg’s steadfastness, his diligence, and his dedication to the mission of Anglicare. His contribution has ensured that Anglicare is in a strong position to serve those in need today, and into the future,” said Ms Horton.
