Anglicare Sydney has a continuing responsibility to maintain and store the personal records of Care Leavers who were in the care of Children’s Homes and other similar institutions. Anglicare ran a number of Homes and has also taken responsibility for a number of other Homes when they ceased operation.
You may have lived in a Home either run by Anglicare Sydney or under its responsibility and wish to explore what records may be held.
To access or receive a copy of any records, please email the Care Leavers Archives or phone us on 0437 870 478. You can find out which Homes Anglicare Sydney is responsible for or which agency is responsible for the Home where you lived on the Find and Connect. This website can help you locate and access your personal records, which may be kept by government departments or past providers of ‘care’.
Anglicare seeks to provide excellent Christian Care through our current services. We are also committed to giving those in previous services access to relevant personal information; ongoing support; and redress if they suffered harm while under our care.
The Pastoral Care and Assistance scheme was put in place by Anglicare Sydney in 2004. The scheme assists people who contact us with allegations of child abuse and/or neglect by a staff member or volunteer in the employ of Anglicare. As a Christian organisation, we want to respond to victims of child abuse and/or neglect with compassion, empathy and respect.
Through the Pastoral Care and Assistance Scheme (PCAS) Anglicare will endeavour to offer various forms of assistance (eg pastoral care, support services, counselling, and financial assistance) to help the victim of abuse to heal, and deal with the impact of abuse in their life. As a part of this process Anglicare will acknowledge the hurt and the offence, and offer an apology to the victim for these events.
With the passage of time and the loss of evidence it will often not be possible for victims of child abuse and/or neglect to establish the validity of their allegations in court. In addition, civil litigation can be costly and stressful. This scheme is intended to provide victims with a voluntary alternative to legal action.
For further information or to inquire about accessing the scheme please email us at the Pastoral Care and Assistance Scheme or phone our office at Telopea on 0437 870 478.
