Waking up to the soothing sound of waves and the salty breeze drifting through your window. As you take in the stunning ocean views of Malabar, you feel a deep sense of peace. This has always been home – the sea, the coastal walks, and the charm of the Eastern Suburbs, with its cosy cafés and vibrant community just a stone’s throw away.
Enjoying a quiet moment to yourself before heading out, you’re already looking forward to your favourite breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and a cup of English Breakfast Tea. It used to be a weekend treat, but here, it’s yours to enjoy every day.
After your morning shower you take a moment for yourself, before heading to the dining room for breakfast. The menu is always fresh and inviting, from a hearty plate of eggs and toast or a bowl of fruit and yogurt - there are always plenty of options to choose from. You enjoy the unhurried start to your day, knowing it’s yours to shape.
Community
Today, you’re meeting with the Lifestyle Coordinator and fellow residents to plan the upcoming month’s activities. There’s a buzz of excitement as everyone shares ideas, and it feels good to have your voice heard. When you mention a trip to Malabar Beach, the group eagerly agrees. The thought of being able to get up close to the water thanks to the beach’s accessible ramp has everyone smiling.
Later, you meet your friends for a game of basketball, followed by afternoon tea on the deck. Surrounded by the calming ocean view, the conversation flows effortlessly as you sip on a cup of English Breakfast tea and share treasured memories with a friend. It’s in these simple, shared moments that you realise how much joy and belonging you’ve found at Dorothy Boyt House.
Dining
When lunch and dinner comes around, the dining room has a vibrant energy. Mealtimes are an enjoyable experience that you look forward to, socialising with your friends and often with a glass of wine. You’re grateful for the variety of choice and freshly prepared options the hospitality team prepare each day. Next month you’ve decided to join the food focus group to work with the team on the next menu. You have always enjoyed cooking, so you’re pleased to be involved and contribute.
Home
As you retire to your room for the evening, you reflect on your day and your time at Dorothy Boyt House so far. A big decision at the time to leave your family home, and everything that was familiar to you, but you’re pleased you did. You’re happy you made the move on your own terms, choosing a residential aged care home that feels right for you, a place where you can embrace the social atmosphere, enjoy activities, continue your favourite hobbies, and even explore new ones.
Yet perhaps what you value most are the friendships you’ve built since moving in. On quieter days, when you’re not up for much, it’s comforting to know that you’re surrounded by a supportive and friendly community.
You also appreciate the respectful balance of independence and care the staff provide, they’re always there when you need them.
This is now your home, a place where you feel safe, respected and loved.
