Waking up to the peaceful sounds of birds in the Illawarra bushland; you feel a comforting sense of calm. You can hear people outside your room walking to breakfast, but you don’t need to rush. The staff at Eileen Armstrong House know you like to ease into the day, and extended breakfast hours make that possible.
As you head down to the central dining room, the smell of fresh coffee fills the air. Each day there’s a wonderful variety of food to choose from, today you’re feeling quite hungry and decide to indulge in scrambled eggs and bacon, with fresh fruit. ;
Community
Today the Bucket List group is meeting to plan the next group of activities. Previously you had the privilege of enjoying a helicopter ride and getting dressed up for glamour day. Who knows what will come out of this meeting - sky diving, you wonder? You can’t believe the lengths the lifestyle carer and community go to, to organise these events. That is why you’re so grateful to support the community by putting together food parcels for the homeless – it is wonderful to be able to give back.
Dining
When lunch and dinner comes around, the dining room has a vibrant energy. Mealtimes are an enjoyable experience that you look forward to, socialising with your friends and often with a glass of wine. You’re grateful for the variety of choice and freshly prepared options the hospitality team prepare each day. Next month you’ve decided to join the food focus group to work with the team on the next menu. You have always enjoyed cooking, so you’re pleased to be involved and contribute.
Home
As you retire to your room for the evening, you reflect on your day and your time at Eileen Armstrong House so far. A big decision at the time to leave your family home, and everything that was familiar to you, but you’re pleased you did. You’re happy you made the move on your own terms, choosing a residential aged care home that feels right for you, a place where you can embrace the social atmosphere, enjoy activities, continue your favourite hobbies, and even explore new ones.
Yet perhaps what you value most are the friendships you’ve built since moving in. On quieter days, when you’re not up for much, it’s comforting to know that you’re surrounded by a supportive and friendly community.
You also appreciate the respectful balance of independence and care the staff provide, they’re always there when you need them.
This is now your home, a place where you feel safe, respected and loved.
