Connect with people

Staying social is one of the best things we can do for our wellbeing, especially after retiring. On a biological level, humans are social creatures—we need to feel connected, part of a community.

Moving here opens new ways to connect with people—those you already know, and the friends you’ve yet to make. The social lives our residents enjoy are often the envy of their families (who are always welcome to come and join the fun).

Gone are the days of work and raising children—here are the years to embrace the social scene. To find a community through new interests. To engage with others in rich and interesting ways. To deepen existing friendships, and bond with people for life.

Meet Sandra

Sandra Sscrivner

Dance Teacher

Sandra Sscrivner has a full dance card. “I seem to have less time now!” she laughs as she discusses how her lifelong passion for dance led her to create a bi-weekly dance club at The Ponds Village.

A social dancer in her youth, Sandra saw an opportunity to use the power of dance to foster better connections—and better health—for her fellow residents. “Dancing keeps us moving, laughing, and living,” says Sandra.

“Your life is only what you make it...people don’t realise that you need to get out and mix and socialise. That’s another thing that helps people keep healthy.”

- Sandra Sscrivner

Her twice-weekly classes are now at capacity and are a much-anticipated part of the weekly calendar. But she admits that, initially, many residents were hesitant. “At first, they all said, ‘No, I can’t do that. No, I can’t do this.’ ‘No, I can’t dance at all,’” says Sandra. “So to see them go from that to what they’re doing now is tremendous.”

For Sandra, the greatest reward is seeing people connect and find a new rhythm—on the dancefloor and in life.

Feel the music

Music is a social affair in the village with choirs, bands, music classes and lots of aspiring musicians keen to jam. Or maybe you’re more of a music appreciator, in which case the musical evenings and concerts are destined for your calendar.

Find new purpose

Sounds simple – but we're often too busy to even to take a moment to reflect on what really matters to us. For some, it’s reconnecting with their spirituality. For others, it’s sharing or learning a new skill. Here, you have the chance to tap into the deeper side of yourself.
